Puerto Rico has a vibrant and culturally rich island with a thriving music scene. We want to give the Band the place it deserves in terms of exposure and space for professional musicians, in addition to serving as a workshop for young composers and directors.

The Puerto Rico Concert Band has a staff of around 48 musicians under the baton of maestro Angel “Cucco” Peña.

What we know today as the Puerto Rico Concert Band was created in 1966 through Joint Resolution No. 68 of June 29, 1966. As part of its mission, the Puerto Rico Concert Band or State Band, as it was previously known, performs at official receptions for foreign dignitaries and other official events of the Government and municipalities. This group focuses on brass instruments, which facilitates outdoor performances, without having to transport larger instruments or need the acoustics of a theater.
